So, the holic opening theme (download it now!!!) is excellent. Seriously, it should be in Guitar Hero. Also, I feel kinda guilty for direct-linking to that site, so why don't you head over to their music page and... download more holic songs? :D

Celebrated Jill's birthday with the usual suspects. 'twas a sleepover in Jill's fabulous gilded mansion on a cloud. We played some Guitar Hero and Brawl and then we talked all night. Ah, if only summer would last forever. :'(

Hey guys, it's Tanabata! Thanks to the Haruhi light novels, I have a rough idea of what it's all about, but for those who don't know, it's a Japanese festival based on the Chinese festival Qi Xi. There are many different versions of the story, but in general they all feature a cowherd and a weaver girl who love each other but can't be together, and they can only meet once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th month. In Japan it's usually celebrated by writing something you wish for on a piece of paper and hanging it on bamboo. Now, I don't have any bamboo nearby to hang my tanzaku on, so I'm going to blog it. ^^; I know, it doesn't really have the same feeling, but it's the best I can do. You guys should do it too so I don't feel crazy and alone.

My tanzaku for this year! Pretend you can't read it, because it's totally a secret.

いい人になりたい

In other news, THIRD EYE BLIND (AWOEIULSJFAKJSL!!!!!) is playing in Novato, CA, on the 27th of September. I'm trying to sound calm, but you have no idea how important it is that I see them. They were the first band that I ever fell in love with, and even if I don't like them as much now, it doesn't mean that I don't still know how to sing all their songs. It's about 30 miles off from Berkeley, maybe more, and I won't be able to get there without a car, but things like that are 100% NOT IMPORTANT right now. Does anyone want to go with me?

In other, other news, I've totally forgotten how to write fiction with original characters. I'm supposed to be working on this piece but it's only got 900 words so far, and I'm stuck. Trying to characterise without canon or fandom to rely on is turning out to be an impossible task for one such as I who possesses a fatally stunted imagination. I've got other stuff to work on, too, but I am probably going to merge smokexscribbles's request with my secret project, which has the advantage of lightening my workload, but the disadvantage of taking at least a month to complete... :'(

So there was some kinda event yesterday where we had to go and talk to the incoming freshmen about how living at Berkeley is awful and hellishly boring and they should just hang themselves now to save the trouble of having to do it later. Except we all had to lie through our teeth and say how wonderful it is and how much we're enjoying ourselves. HA!

Also, I met someone in Fong's group of friends (see, I'm being diplomatic) who's going to Berkeley in the fall, he's a real piece of work. Just like all the rest. I tried to have a friendly conversation with him about games, and he goes, So how do the Americans dota? And I said well, what do you mean? And he says this very fast, in one breath: "You know, how is their creeping, farming, denying, calling, lane control, teamwork, ganking, support, itemisation...?"

HUH?! Ya, OK, I get it, you're trying to show me up because I'm a girl and you don't think I can dota. Could you be more obvious? Could you be more obviously rude and arrogant? Sure, I understand these terms, as anyone who's actually played with me can attest, but I'm not about to give you a verbal treatise on each and every specific deficiency in the average American's style of play. If I just say they're a bunch of fucking noobs, why shouldn't that suffice? It's a blanket term which means they're bad at EVERYTHING. But no, you have to try and make yourself look bigger than the girl. Well, at least you succeeded in making yourself look like the bigger asshole.

And now I have to find my way to Jerrine's place so I can visit the invalid, pay my respects and play Guitar Hero. Life is exciting.

Once in a while, when I'm bored, I go back to Chapter 28 and look at all of the hilarious stuff we wrote when we were in secondary school. Some of it is absolutely brilliant. For example, here is softplaces being Narcissa -

What are you going to do? Bludgeon Evans on the head and drag her off? You could always talk to her, thereby turning her brain into mush.

This I have to watch. I almost wish you'd succeed just to see this. If only I didn't hate you and wish you were dead.

And here's Aysuria as Lily and yours truly as Sirius -

Again, unfortunately for you, Sirius, I'm not planning on a lobotomy anytime soon.

And to Potter:
I WILL NEVER EVER, EVER GO OUT WITH YOU.
EVEN IF YOU WERE THE LAST BOY ON THE PLANET AND THERE WERE NO MONKEYS.

oh go on then evans. hes really taken with you, he wants you to be his bit of fluff, his breadknife, his luv a duck and so on, and hes not really like a monkey in some ways

Fluff, duck? What nonsense are spouting Sirius?

And oh yeah, you're right about the Monkey bit. So yeah,

I WILL NEVER EVER, EVER GO OUT WITH YOU.
EVEN IF YOU WERE THE LAST BOY ON THE PLANET AND THERE WERE NO AMOEBAS.

now now, you might puncture his gigantic ego and then we would all be killed by the explosion

And Kim-Mei as Severus -

Played chess with Rosier. It was a draw.

It has been four days and the four drunks have not tried to do anything to me yet.
I just took the most terrifying shower of my life

About half an hour before I decided I'd had enough of sitting around festering in my own dirt, it started pouring outside. By the time I got into the shower, the pouring had turned into a full-on storm, lightning and booming thunder and everything. It felt like I was taking a bath in the middle of Disney's Fantasia. The bathroom kept lighting up with lightning flashes that seemed to be right outside my seventh-storey window and thunder made the shower fixtures rattle. :( I know lightning rods make it implausible but I kept imagining having a lightning bolt come in through the window and fry me to a crisp. That's how they would find me: smoke still fizzling gently out of my ears, stone cold dead under the water spout. :'(

I watched The Incredible Hulk with the loves of my life, aerocranes and premiumlarge. It would have been more accurately titled The Incredible Waste of Having Ed Norton and Tim Roth in the Same Movie but Doing Nothing Particularly Noteworthy. Yeah, it was a bad movie, but I'd probably watch it again. How do I put this - I wasn't not entertained. I think it may only be because I like looking at Edward Norton, though. I said to Shimona, 'I think the movie would be greatly improved if the Hulk was removed!' And she said, 'really?? I thought that was the best part of the movie!' But I think we were talking about different things, because yeah, the cgi Hulk was definitely the best part of this crapfest, but what I meant was that the hulk should be removed and the movie should be about something else entirely, such as gay.

Kind mister Senthil took some time out of his busy schedule to stop womanizing and drop by my place to lend me his WC3 CD, but I've tried it and it's refusing to work properly. :( Life is sad. In more cheerful news - none of you will be interested to know this, but I finally bought my epic flying mount, which means my life is complete. In the next entry I'll probably be posting a picture of it which nobody will look at. Yeah, you guys are dicks.

Fandom-wise, I've been working on writing and writing and writing. It's not so hard as it was when I was feeling all angry about how crap I am at it, but the stuff I'm producing is definitely bad. Well, I've still got loads of good ideas, so sooner or later something I come up with will turn out OK... Right?

Well, now it's like 8 in the morning, so I should probably sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to get up in time to catch my guildies online.

Hey guys, I'm back from my trip. Going through 1000 photos has turned out to be a bit of a chore, so I'm going to put that off until a time I shall call 'when I feel like it'.

I really have gotten all worked up about fandom recently, and I even wrote a couple of shitty fics that I didn't post here for fear of scaring the normal friends, but always, always I'll look at someone else's stuff and feel completely inadequate and want to die. Not really die, but at least mope around for a bit. It might just be that I'm not cut out to write touching yet realistic homoerotic fanfiction. Oh, I don't know.

An important announcement: I need to borrow Reign of Chaos from someone. No, really. I lost mine - might have packed it in Berkeley, which is not good either - and I can't dota. (!!!) I have my legit Frozen Throne, but no WC3. Please, someone, help :(

It's nice here but I must say, the Italians are messing it all up. Everything is so bloody expensive. Most of the people in my tour group are not very nice, and if I have to eat one more pasta dish I will explode. Nevertheless, I feel, you know, culturally enriched. I have nearly a thousand photos and some of them are quite nice, I'm looking forward to showing you all. Been writing fic, too, which is exciting. But I've got to get back soon and run my WoW guild.
Today we all ODed on antihystamines and went to my cousin's place. Normally I'm all right with cats because I have two of them, but she has got 17 so it is kind of like allergen overkill there. I went to borrow some Nikon lenses from her husband, my kor, and he very kindly lent me a wide-angle and a micro. I'm definitely bringing the wide-angle with me on vacation, I've always wanted one and it's brilliant. Just now I was trying them out, this is one I took with the micro lens:

It's unbelievably awesome. You can see one more taken with the micro and some others with my kit lens on flickr. erushi, want to do a photoshoot while I'm still in possession of this lens? ^^

In other news, my flight is tomorrow and I still haven't packed because I am a bum. I'll regret it tomorrow, but right now it's nice to be lazy.

Fanime was over Memorial Day weekend (May 23-26) and it was pretty fun. I bought a black Mokona plushie and a Trigun bag which reads, "Wanted Dead or Alive: Vash the Stampede 60,000,000,000$$". It's awesome, and apparently it's out of print. Also got lots of fanart prints, such as this excellent piece.

I was at the con on all 4 days and I probably took less than 50 photos. Generally I only take pictures of good cosplay from things that I know, making exceptions only for really excellent cosplay. Anyway, I highly recommend checking these out, cos you'll get to see a pair of people who went as Pikmin.

I am digging this Haruhi and Kyon. If you check out the big version of this photo you will see what I mean, she's got this crazy, I'll bite yer legs off look.

On my way out I saw this Link playing an actual ocarina by the fountain. He was playing Saria's Song iirc. Now that's accuracy. Also dedication.

What would possess anyone to paint their entire body red or blue, stick a flower on their head and cosplay as Pikmin? Nevertheless, I admire their... originality.

Lots of TF2 cosplay. Not that I mind. See character models here.

Scout

Engineer

Heavy, this guy is awesome cos he even looks like the Heavy. He said he made the gun out of PVC pipe and a trash can.

Medic, Spy, Sniper. They aren't carrying props though, so they lose points :(

KuroFai! Funny story - I took a couple other photos of these two, and afterwards as we were walking away we noticed the Kurogane was wearing several inches worth of platform shoes. Later when we ran into them again, the platforms were gone and the Kurogane was at least half a head shorter than the Fai. Hence, as depicted above, she had to kneel while posing. Well, I guess you have to work with what you've got. :s

Team Mario.
Watched 秒速５センチメートル (5 Centimeters Per Second) again for the 5th or 6th time. It never fails to make me weepy. It's like I watch it again, hoping that maybe this time there'll be a happy ending, but there isn't and then I get depressed.

In other news, everyone pretty much already knows this but maybe talking about it publicly will shame me into doing it less. Probably not but anything is worth a shot. I have a slight problem with wiping things clean and hand-washing, in that I do these things all the god damn time, to the point where the skin on my hands is so dry that it cracks. This will sound weird but my brain feels itchy when it thinks my hands aren't clean, and it's unbearable. Yeah, I realize that this is a problem that only privileged kids in countries with a free flow of water can have. It makes me sick that I'm sick. Why is it that, in the absence of a real problem like having nothing to eat or nowhere to sleep, my mind must invent some imaginary illness to plague me?

This confession hasn't made me feel any better. Guess I didn't really expect it to.

I've been trying to write fic again, it's pretty exhausting. I'm not gonna post that stuff here though cuz family types visit this blog. I don't possess any particular talent for writing but at least it kinda feels like I'm getting my groove back.

Anyway, sleep calls.

Conned my parents into getting me a laptop. The guy at the store gave a free upgrade to 3GB RAM to go with it. It's not bad, but unfortunately it's not my dream portable gaming machine. I like to go to alienware and customize one until it costs US$3000. Then I drool on my keyboard until it shorts.

In other news, I changed my lj style again. :( It's the same as bangendedscoot's, and I sincerely apologise for being a poser... But I can't help that we both have impeccable good taste. I tried to differentiate it from yours a little, so don't be mad. :(

Gearing up to re-enter fandom - or at least, dip my toes into it - necessitates a full blog redesign. And also tagging of old entries. Why I need to do this, I cannot tell you. But since fandom might give me a temporary new purpose in life, I do what I must.

SSB:B news - got Sonic from beating classic mode, Lucario from SSE. Have discovered the point of collecting stickers: you put them on your fighters, and these stickers then confer powers beyond the prowess of your average fighter. For example, I can put a dolphin sticker on Squirtle and his water attacks do +18 damage. By the way, the whole reason I started talking about this was so that I could tell you about the dolphin sticker I put on Squirtle.

Welp, my Burning Crusade installation is done. Time to boot it up and marvel at crappy laptop graphics.

Edit, 30 seconds later: Forgot about all the patches. Life is sad. :(

Well, I changed my lj theme to something I got off spiralbound_lj. It's nice, but kinda small and... er, squashed to one side. ^^ If you happen to know somewhere I can get a nice layout, or if you're willing to make one for me (!), please tell me. I've been in a melancholic mood as of late and I think it might be remedied, at least temporarily, by having a nice lj layout to look at.

This computer has gotten weirdly laggy in the past hour; it's probably trying to get me to turn it off and go to sleep. Don't worry, dear old PC from 2003, I've convinced my parents that I need a laptop. Now it's just a matter of buying it.

15 matches on this "Shadow Moses Island" did get me Solid Snake. He is pretty awesome. :( Now I just need to beat Classic mode again... and again... and again... to get Sonic. What a pain in the ass.

Hey guys, I am home. Also, my grades for this semester are out and since they are good this time I'm going to show them off. Look:

A Engineering 45: Introduction to Properties of Engineering Materials
A Physics 7B for Scientists and Engineers
A- Math 54: Linear Algebra and Second-order Differential Equations
A- English 135AC: Literature of American Cultures

Fanime was pretty cool, but I'm too lazy to write about it in detail. I will say that I got all excited about TRC again, though, cuz agitpunkt and I watched the OVAs and they were fantastic. (When I say TRC, I mean Kurogane and Fai. Hooray for gay!) I even started writing fic again, but as usual it sucks and I end up hating it. I guess it's the thought that counts, huh? I got 100% caught up on the manga, but the free scanlations I'm reading aren't really high quality, so I have no idea what's going on. By this point it kinda feels like Clamp is just making shit up as they go along, anyway.

I was thinking about getting more involved in the fandom, too, cuz it's pretty sad and the pairing deserves better than that. But how much can these poor hands contribute?! I don't know. Anyway, I think I have the wrong temperament for fandom. It could be that I'm getting old and set in my ways.

It seems like my sister got SSB Brawl while I was away, but didn't unlock Snake or Sonic??? Talk about a letdown. That task has now fallen to me, so I'm patiently working my way through the subspace emissary, also known as stupid single player mode that you have to play to unlock Snake and Sonic. At least I got the Pokemon trainer, he's awesome. Seriously, I don't know why there isn't a Pokemon MMO yet. I would be on that shit like lightning, just thinking about it gets me excited. You can call me a loser but if you played Pokemon when you were little don't act like you don't think it would be awesome, too.

It's taking me forever to finish this fic. Maybe I should just... not. Ugh.
